Why do Tom's shoes have to be so fucking expensive? I get that they give shoes to kids in need. But seriously, if I'm spending $50 on a pair of shoes they better give a pair of shoes to my kids in need. Tom, you shoes aren't that cool. I'll stick with my Van's Classic Slip Ons, thanks.
i read a blogger's post who was a missionary in some third world country (either africa or india, cant remember which) and she was talking about how she was volunteering with this orphanage and one of the tasks she was helping with was sorting all the donations 'into' a keep or 'burn' the orphan she was helping was an older teenager who was putting Tom's shoes into the burn pile. the volunteer missionary asked her why she would put such nice shoes into the burn pile. the orphan said because everyone knew that Tom's shoes were given to poor people...she was already an orphan, she didnt want to add to the stigma and have everyone knowing she was a poor orphan just by looking at her shoes.
ReplyDeleteThe whole point of this missionaries blog post was proper charity work and is toms really providing something that these underpriviledged kids can use without feeling embarrassed by it. pretty interesting read. ill see ic i can find the original blog.
